From The Metamorphosis: I seem to have transformed into a large bug. Has this ever happened to any of you? No solution on Web MD
From Oedipus the King: PARTY IN THEBES!!!!! Nobody care I killed that old dude, plus this woman is ALL OVER ME!
From Macbeth: Old Hags say Macbeth is killed by no man of woman born. Relieved. The Terminator not invented yet.
From The Great Gatsby: Gatsby is so emo. Who cries about his girlfriend while eating breakfast…IN THE POOL?
From Hamlet: 2bornot2b? Can one tweet beyond the mortal coil?
This is Twitterature. Some of the greatest literary works in history distilled through the voice of Twitter into statements of 140-characters or less. As the back cover says “Twitterature provides everything you need to master the literature of the civilized world, while relieving you of the burdensome task of reading it.” I’m sure there are many people who would view such an undertaking as a travesty. I happen to think the writers are quite clever and innovative. I think stories can be told and re-told in many forms and through many mediums and all can be entertaining and meaningful. That being said, not all art forms are for everyone. In reading I certainly had some laughs. However, if I hadn’t read the original novel or play I found it a little difficult to fully appreciate the wit of the twitter version. In short, it was amusing but not necessarily my favourite way to experience literature.
